Yes, it’s that time of year once again in Victoria BC! Spring in this city generally brings the buzz and excitement of real estate sales and purchases. We have been commissioned by many realtors and private sellers to repair, maintain or update existing and new granite/quartz/marble countertops. The most common issue we address during these meetings with realtors is chips on the edge of the stone countertops. These can be quite noticeable and frustrating for owners to deal with and can sometimes be seen from a distance. Most people that inspect kitchen and bathroom countertops pre purchase, typically slide their hands or fingers over the polished edges, this also exposes chips. We use top of the line acrylic adhesive for these chip repairs. Its colour matched to the stone model and can be shaped and polished for almost any application and these fills can last for many years with limited to no maintenance.
Sinks can also be a main focus to a purchaser in a kitchen or bathroom. If they are undermounts, a usual concern is them falling down or becoming detached from the countertop underside. We can remount these sinks and provide a lifetime non transferable no drop guarantee going forward. Another issue with sinks is simply how they look and the silicone seal around the revealed edge. We can remove and redo ALL silicone and/or caulking in any room of your home, making these spaces feel finished and clean. One more change we can make with sinks is removing them and completely changing them. We can cut and polish your stone countertops onsite and while installed, to accept a new topmount or undermount sink. There are some restrictions to this process and it would be beneficial for you to read our “indoor cutting protocol” if you wish to pursue this change.
Separated or grungy looking seams can also be a deal breaker for new purchasers. Homes that had their granite or quartz countertops installed 10 or more years ago likely have a sub par polyester adhesive in the joints. This adhesive is no longer used in the industry for this application because of 2 main concerns that cause it to fail – water and temperature change. We take out all the failed adhesive and redo the joints with our top of the line acrylic adhesive, eliminating the water and temperature concerns. We can generally get these seams looking far better than even the original install. We also offer a 2 year seam separation warrantee on this work.
The last regular service we provide to sellers is a deep clean and seal package for natural stone – marble, granite, travertine. We can usually remove water marks or coffee/water rings with limited impact to the room. Sometimes there are stains, in this case we recommend reading our blog post regarding removing stains from natural stone. This process takes at least 24 hours, so is not something we provide and can easily be done by the owner (we would need that process completed pre our cleaning and sealing). Once we have the stone countertops looking great, we apply the absolute best 5 year, enhancing sealer. Leaving the kitchen or bathroom looking lush and ready for sale!
